Hello, sorry for the long delay in a new post, we have been very bust at Challenger Racing getting ready for a new seasons racing, To bring you up to date we now race at Rissington in the Cotswold's, March was a bad race meeting, April was no better, with bent axles, engine mounts coming loose, petrol pipes splitting..... need I go on, all this is just one week-end, May and June have been very very good, June resulted in us getting our fastest ever lap times, 42.9 seconds, lap record is 42.5 so we are well on the way to better times, also we are now front running with Kieron battling for 2nd place in one heat. We started the final in 8th position and after some really excellant driving unfortunatly we coudnt finish any higher but we did gain 2 championship places. July 4th next, if the weather is as good as it currently is I feel we should have another fantastic race result, will let you knoiw more after.

Our next meeting is at Shenington on Oct 18th, we are currently 9th out of 32 in the championship so we are looking forward to the next three races, we would like to get in the top five but we will wait and see.
I am currently in negotioation to get a sponsor to pay for our racing tyres next year, 12 sets in total, will let you know more when or if I am succesfull.
The Tonykart chassis is still performing well but we will see how in goes in October as when the weather gets colder the engine performance drops off.

Well, Shenington was a great week-end for us, we have moved to a Tonykart chassis which resulted in us being able to carry more speed throughout the track due to the chassis allowing more flexibilty therefore more grip. This enabled us to gain our fastest lap at Shenington which was 45.25 seconds, 400th of a second of the final winner and a top speed of 50mph, this has moved us upto 9th position out of 34 in the club championship, a great effort with three races of the season left.
Next race is October, hopefully the weather will be with us.

It went really well at sheni last weekend. I didn't get rammed off, no blow out out and no one was hurt. I managed to gain 3 spaces in the final to finish 18th. We have also bought a 2008 Tony kart EVXX RACER to replace my 2006 Arrow AX9

No racing till August

Well, the school summer hols is now here and Kieron has got some holiday time in Turkey with his grandad and family so we won't be racing until the 3rd Sunday of August, this will be at Shenington (hopefully no rain).
September and October should be quite busy for us as we will be racing both at Rissington and Shenington both month's, thats once a fornight for the 2 month's, all should be well and we will try to beat our last times.
The last race meeting was memorable foer the wrong reasons, Kieron drove really well on the track, it was all the things that happened off track.
First the engine woudn't rev so a few adjustments made, then whilst changing tyres I cut my inner thigh just missing my Veveral artery, fortunatley there was an ambulance nearby , then Kieron got rammed off the track.....twice........deliberatly, then I got a blowout on the caravan on the way home on the motorway!!
Next time the week-end had better be good or I'll end up screaming.

I did well at Rissington, I am only about half a second off the lap record. On the final lap I went on the inside and out braked number 40 but on the same lap 2 bends later I went to fast in and went out wide and he got past and 3 novice's stuck behind him.

Well, thats the next race week-end, Rissington, a great twisty track.
I have now had Kieron's engine problem rectified, it just would not rev high enough to pull through the bends and power down the straights, after a chat with the engine builder it was decided a new '09 cylinder head with a carb dyno-tune was required, what a difference, on the Dyno the previous cylinder head was pulling 15HP, now its pulling 18.5 HP, which has already gained us 1.5 seconds on the track, great!!

Last time we were at Rissington we finished 5th, we are hoping for even better this time.
I will keep you informed of how it goes.

Monster trucks

We went to Cardiff and the stadiwm y mileniwm (millennium stadium) to watch MONSTER TRUCKS. Watching MAXIMUM DESTRUCTION on free style was really good because as he jumped he flipped and the suspension broke. Last year escalade came with a cadilac escalade which had spinners and neons, but this year he changed it to backwards bob which was a normal truck but the body was on thewrong way. Cant wait until next year

Rissington race week-end

I went really well out on the track on heat 1, I started 5th and finished 6th so I only lost one place. On heat 2 I started 2nd which is my highest start but, as I started the carb. flooded so it held me back and someone went around taking people off and took me off. So on the first lap I was last, but I managed to get 2 or 3 places back. And on heat 3 I started 9th and someone didnt get on the grid quick enough and another person couldnt start so in a minute I was 9th to 7th, during the heat I gained 2 places so I finished 5th, my highest finish
On the final I did well I only lost 2 places and finished 9th.

In the practice sessions I was doing 48 seconds and in the final I doing 46 seconds and if my dad had changed the carb. I would of gained 2 extra places

The week before Sheni we went to Rednal and it poured down, it was like driving on ice with tyres which have no tread. On one bend it had no grip at all so you had to go really slow, the kart has no power steering so to turn with grip you have to accelerate, it dried out again and we went through 10 liters of fuel and still didn't have enough ,in the end we ran out.

What a way to finish a race in the pouring rain, thunder and lightening. And lightening so hard the screen went off for a minute or two and the main grand stand was struck 3 times. What a win, BUTTON won it again.

The qulifing went all right for Button, Not very well for Mclaren Mercedes. I bet Ferrari wish they hadnt let Mr. Brawn go because Brawn Mercedes are doing well and for the first time in his carrer Button has qulified 1st 2 times in a row

He managed to win a race even with 2 safety cars and BMW`s crash was pretty bad.
We had a wheel hanging off in my last race and carried on !!

Well, after the last race event, Kieron managed to get involved in a few scrapes and crashes, I don't like crashes because crashes mean money :) and sure enough!!
I've had to order a complete new bodywork kit, new side pods, nose cone and nassau panel, not only that but a new sticker kit as well.
The radiator can stay, I've never seen a banana shaped rad before but as it's not leaking it can live on to see another few races yet!!
Next race for Challenger racing is Easter week-end, hopefully the sun will shine and Kieron will do well.
Rissington soon, first week-end in May hopefully assuming I can get time off work!!!!

Last sheni race

I tried to write about the race and what happened at the time, but I had no internet connection.

The pratices went well and on one of the end pratices I had a massive pile up, I bent the side pod which is a side skirt, bent the strenghening beam behind it and bent the raditor. The side pod split into two but with good old gaffa tape we managed the race.
My times on Sunday started badly, 58 second laps which is slow, but, after my dad adjusting a few things we got down to 47 seconds, the track record is 44 secs so pretty good.
On Sunday afternoon at the time for the final race we were told where we would be starting, and because of the crashes and the engine playing up I was starting right at the back,
25th, and at the end I came 20th, not bad with the engine playing up!!!
Here's to the next race week-end, 18 and 19 April, EASTER.

Hello, after a few requests to place a picture of Challenger Racing's kart on this site, here it is.
An Arrow AX9 chassis, 125cc water cooled Rotax engine and a few scuffs.

Next racing is at Shenington so I hope the sun is shining and the kart performs well.
Lots of testing has been done over the last month or so and driving ability is getting better (read Rissington)

I forgot to mention that there was over 70 cadet karts last week end and there had to be 2 separate races. When we started there was only about 20 cadet karts and only one race !!

Last Sunday we went to oswestry (which we cant say) so we call it Rednal it was really good there, there was a kart smashed up worth over £4,500 and the driver had broken his collar bone by doing 5 somersaults. Next week end is Sheni which I am hoping I will do better than last time.

This school week was excellent only going to school on Wednesday and Friday out of the whole 5 days !!!

We went to Shenington today,
We only did the practice.

THE FIRST PRACTICE
On this practice it was good fun you can really feel the wind but 2 other karts rammed me ,one was a bend before a really long straight and one when the chequered flag was shown,it was a bit annoying.

SECOND PRACTICE
On this practice I only managed to do not even half a lap when they spun me around and the engine was flooded. As soon as we attempted to start it up in the pits it started.

THIRD PRACTICE

We was still on wets, and was the only one which went well, smooth as possible only my friend (JACK) went to try to get past me and FAILED !! all he succeed was ripping apart his sticker on the nose cone (front bumper)

FOURTH PRACTICE

This time we didn't even get out of the pits as I went to start it up we realised the battery was flat.

FIFTH PRACTICE

We managed to borrow a battery off Bill Hughes and we also bought a set of BRAND NEW slicks we just made it to the dummy grid are left-front Tyre was flat, no air in what so ever. I thought it would pull to the left but it didn't.

Cant wait till January when we start racing !!

Last week-end we went to the "Kart Mania" place were we got helmet overalls, gloves and everything !!

At last we got a visor on my last on you could slitley see through it so every time I tryed to have a sleep on the dummy grip every one could see

But now no one can see and I`ve tryed this its pitch black just like THE STIG

Last weekend I went to the N.E.C. (national exibition center).
On Thursday we went to set the stand up.
Friday I was at school and was only there for about 2 hours sort of annoying.
Saturday I had a real good look around, it was hard getting pictures lIke GUMPERT APOLLO`s, MERCEDES MCLAREN SLR`S, PAGINI ZONDA`s.
I heard my dad say to come back later so we did.
On Sunday the last day,
I finally found the Xbox`s, everywere like that always has Xbox`s in there.
At the end it was announced closed and after 3 everyone blow there horns we had a air horn so it was quite loud !!!
It took us 2 hours to take the stand down after we found out there was a car crash on the round about holding everyone up and the trailer coudn't get in!!

Beccles wasnt so bad, the pratices were lovely, nice hot weather, but, when we went to bed the heavens opened, it pourd down, and it didnt stop utnil the final race.
The track is as rough as hell.
Overall all thou not bad started 5th and ended 5th.
I`d love to go back there, its just the 4 hour drive !!

Last months race

Unfortunately I didn't do so well at sheni last month.
Last month at practice I was keeping up with the "S" plate winner which is like Grandprix for F1!
But on the 3 heats and the race OH NO the heats were just rubbish and on the race it wouldnt start, but we pulled the petrol feed out and it started put it back in and off we went.
I had to start at the back thou.
Ended up after the race 15th out of 20 but over all I think I did alright.

Richard Hughes at last or maybe not ??

Ive been waiting for ages for an engine for my Arrow chassis. Richard Hughes Racing said they might help try to find one for us. They were also on about either buying brand new or second hand.
Brand new you get all the correct equiment but you have to run it in all day. Second hand you dont have to bother running it in but you dont get the equiment so you end up spending more. Richard Hughes Racing is a racing team that on a week day race and on a week end teach how to race life cant get much easier then that !!
After the pratice they gave us a sheet of paper which had loads of prices for equiment and that lot. He said that people mostley go for awning and equiment, I asked Dad he said no it will cost to much like the rest of the things we pay for.
Knowing Dad he`ll know what to do when I'm to big for the kart and move up.
Anyway Richard Hughes specially does 100cc and above because when they first started, they started on 100cc they became good and everyone wanted there help. It became the team it is now. A big team with not many people in it.
One of the things I kept on going on about was how it would fit in the trailer but we sold that yesterday and bought a caravan so at last I dont have to get up at 6 in the morning and have a 2 hour journey. We can now get up when we like and still not be late for "drivers brefing" if you miss that you cant pratice or race and also get fined.

Here is a picture of me on my test day at Shenington on my new Minimax 125cc kart, I forgot to brake and this was the result!!!

Other than that the day went really well, I have never driven one of these fast karts before and I was only 3 seconds off the race leader. preety good I think.

Well the search is now on for a new engine and all the bits to go with it, a small fortune, best part of £**** , so if anyone can help with any sponsorship then let me know via e-mail, anything would be greatly appreciated.

I am starting the bigger class in January but need to get some testing done before my first race so will be busy up-to then trying out.

Next round of cadet racing is Sept 20/21st where once again I will be trying to improve my current standings in the club championship!!!

Richard Hughes race team test day!!

This is a picture of the latest kart class I am going to move up to in January, it's an Arrow AX9 minimax , capable of speeds up to 60 mph.

I have a test day coming up on the 28th August at Shenington with Richard Hughes racing team, they are going to set up my kart to give the best performance for me, and also advise on where I can improve my driving.

If all goes well I am hoping to join the Richard Hughes race team using my own chassis but with all their technical help and full race facilities.

This will be a great step forward with my karting and the prospects of a few more trophies looks good.

I am staying with cadet kart until January when I will be looking to sell my cadet kart and engines and look forward to a few race seasons in Minimax.

I will of course add some photo's of the test day later.

Tryton re-built (again)

Well, after last months uneventfull racing due to my Tryton carb not working I have got it back from the engine re-builders and apparently it was full of dirt??? not sure how because we filter the petrol before we race , but never mind, another £60 odd quid spent!! this I feel will be a regular problem with this carb.

We are going to try a few different tracks in the forthcoming month's, Whilton Mill in Northampton and Beccles kart club in Suffolk, the reason being that Shenington often has upto 50 cadet karts at one meet resulting in the practice sessions being less time and the heats have less laps to accomodate everyone who takes part.
Beccles is a smaller club and often has up-to 15 laps in the final as opposed to ten at Shenington, plus we fancy a change.

we are going to Whilton 20 August for practice, Beccles 25 October to race.

Should be fun:).

I have recently bought a chassis for the next race class , junior mini rotax, a 125cc engine with speeds upto 70 mph, will put some pictures on soon.

Big thanks to HADGE who came to see me race today, Calfornia Construction gave me a donation to purchase some new racing wet tyres which I bought last week.

Hadge was so impressed with my performance he is coming to see me race again in August.

I had a good day and bad day, good because my lap times were constant at 55 secs , my best top speed was 41 mph.

Bad because everyone else was going just as fast, if not faster!!!!

3 heats and a final, starting 4, 5, 17 , and 17th in the final, my main carb decided to break down so I had to use my reserve one which isn't as fast, but I still managed to finish each heat although not in the top half.

I started the final next to Jack so I thought it would be fun if I stuck with him around the track, not to be........ my chain came off with 2 laps 2 go!!! :( . my result was second from last, really dissapointing but thats racing.

My main carb is now going off to be re-built (again), more money, but hey, isn't that what it's all about??

I have now got a new set of wet tyres thanks to California Construction giving me a cash donation, so watch out if it's raining as there's no stopping me!!

Good Luck to Jack who has got his ARKS test on the Saturday, you will pass no problems and then we can race together on Sunday.

Thought I'd show you this picture of Gravedigger in action at Millenium stadium Cardiff,was a brilliant day and there was a total of 12 monster trucks there, all from Monster Jam USA!!!

NEWARK KIT CAR SHOW

As you can see , the kart was in good company for the show, it was on display with the E-Type challenger owners club (see link) and it attracted lots of attention from people asking about how to start karting and how expensive it is (very!! :))

We enjoyed the day and we also were invited to attend a further show, Speed on wheels and Kart-Mania in Leicestershire on 5th and 6th July.

Welcome to my blog where you can follow the progress of my kart racing.

I am currently running in 15th position in the club championship rounds at Shenington race track near Banbury.
My next meeting will be on 19/20 July so I will update more progress then.

I have the opportunity to show off my kart and promote myself at the Newark kit-car show on Sunday June 20th where I will be displaying along with the E-Type Challenger owners club.
Will add some photo's when available.
